1. Outline
In this material, several preventive measures against errors of linear scale caused by noise in the
system of FANUC Series 16i/ 18i/ 21i/ 20i/ 160i/ 180i/ 210i/ 15i/ 150i/ Power Mate i ,etc. are shown.
2. Preventive measures
2.1 Scale unit grounding
In generally, head and body of linear scale should be grounded steadily. When scale is installed,
some scale needs a specified screw for it. Please follow the installing manual of linear scale and
secure steady grounding.
2.2 Treatment of cable shield
The cable of linear scale should be shielded cable. Please ground its shield near the unit connected it
as you can.
When the cables are relayed, please ground the both shields of them or connect the shields of them
to secure steady conduction between both shield.
2.3 In case of Separate Detector Unit (SDU)
Like above figure, please ground 0V of DC power supply for SDU and keep this power line away
from noise sources (example AC cable, contact etc.) as you can.
2.4 other measure
If the noise invading in linear scale is too much or noise tolerance of linear scale is not enough,
grounding signal ground terminal may be effective. It is located on the printed circuit board of SDU for
basic four axes. Grounding wire can be fixed with M3 screw.
