Additional information in shrink fitting
of a rotor of BiS series

This document provides the additional information to the DISCRIPTIONS of FANUC
BUILT-IN SPINDLE MOTOR BiS series in shrink fitting.
The shrink fitting process described in the DISCRIPTIONS(B-65342EN) is suitable for
the smaller rotor and is unsuitable for the heavy rotor on safety point. The shrink fitting
process described in this document will be available the all size rotor and it is also safer
than former way. The new process described in this document is best recommended
process to shrink fit a rotor.
(The changed point)
The previous way described in the former document is handling the hot rotor to fit on a
spindle. This document recommends the new process that a lifted spindle shaft goes
down through into the bore of the hot rotor placed on the stand jig.

(Caution)
1. Protector
- Wear the strong thick glove of heat resistant and heat insulating on your hand.
2. Handling
- Use a crane or some supporting equipment to lift or to carry a rotor.
It is very hazardous to carry a rotor by hand. Because the rotor can easily to collide
with magnetic material, and there is a possibility to be injured.
- Keep a rotor more than 0.5m from magnetic material to avoid collision.
3. Shrink fitting
- In the shrink fitting process, the rotor should be placed on a jig and carried on the jig,
and avoid to carry by hand as possible as you can.
- When heat up a rotor for shrink fitting, the jig that the rotor is on should also be
heated up with the rotor at the same time.
(Notice for the rotor quality)
1. Avoid a shock and excess heat
- The magnet in the rotor will be demagnetized by the temperature over 150degree
Celsius. And also demagnetized by a shock.
- When shrink fitting, do not drop the spindle to the rotor to avoid hitting each other.
- Also the rotor itself may be deformed by a shock and excess heat.
2. Handling
- Do not place on a hard surface without any mat to avoid deformation.
- Do not drop or hit against hard surface to avoid deformation.
