1.3.3 Creating a New Part Program
To create a new part program, enter the number of the program you
wish to create on the MANUAL GUIDE 0
i main screen. If the system
does not display a warning, the MANUAL GUIDE 0
i editing screen
will appear with the requested program number filled in and ready for
user editing. The MANUAL GUIDE 0
i editing screen should not be
confused with the CNC’s native editor. To compare the two screens,
press the “PROG” key on the MDI key panel. While the displayed
screen resembles the MANUAL GUIDE 0
i editing screen, you will
note that it does not present the same information. Return to the
MANUAL GUIDE 0
i screen by pressing the “CUSTOM” key on the
MDI key panel.
Using the editing screen, the user can either enter commands for the
part program directly or use the four soft-keys to develop a part
program. These soft-keys provide additional assistance in the form of
both text and graphic guidance to streamline part program
development.
To enter information directly using the editor, first place the cursor
where the information should be inserted. Note that the editor inserts
the new information “after” the current cursor position. If you have
just created a new program, the cursor should be directly over the End
of Block (EOB) character “;” on the screen. Any new information will
then be inserted after the EOB and begin a new line of program. Take
the time to understand how the editor inserts information into the
program that is being edited.
Suppose a user wants to insert the text “T1M6;” into the newly
created program. The user would check that the cursor is positioned
over the “;” on the same line as the part program number and then
enter “T1M6[EOB]” (where [EOB] is not the string “EOB,” but the
EOB key on the MDI key panel). The information will now be
displayed as “>T1M6;” on the editor’s buffer line. To insert a new
line into the part program, press the “INSERT” key on the MDI key
panel. The new command is inserted into the part program and the
cursor is positioned over the new line.
