1.3.4 Process Assistance
We have already learned that, after we have created a new part
program (or edited one that already exists), we can use the editor to
enter information into the part program directly. In itself, however,
this offers no real advantage over using the CNC’s native editor. So,
MANUAL GUIDE 0
i provides five soft-keys. These five soft-keys
provide additional assistance to the user in the development of a part
program. These assistance keys make programming much easier.
The first key we will consider is the “Process Assistance” key. On
this screen, the user can enter information about the desired
processing requirements for a part program. By using the cursor keys
on the MDI key panel, the user can position the cursor to any desired
field and enter information for that entry. Some entries require
numerical information, while others are selectable by using the cursor
left or right keys on the MDI key panel.
Let’s look at an example of these operations. We’ll enter the
following information into the part program:
Feedrate: 300
Coolant: Flood
First, let’s position the cursor to the “FEED” entry (the cursor is
automatically positioned to this entry when you first open the screen).
Next, we’ll enter 300 on the MDI key panel and then press the
“INPUT” key. The entry should now indicate “300.0”. To enter the
coolant information, move the cursor down to the “COOLANT” entry
(using the MDI key panel down arrow key) and then press the right
cursor key (right arrow key on the MDI key panel) until the entry
indicates “FLOOD.” Although this information is now in the process
assistance, it has not yet been sent to the part program. To add this
information to the part program, press the “ACCEPT” soft-key on the
