Testing Your System
Generating Motion
Warning
Before generating motion, make sure that your motor is securely fastened down and is
NOT connected to the load.
Jogging the Motor
The simplest way to generate motion is to manually move or jog an axis. Assuming no errors are
present, you should be able to jog the first axis simply by:
• Selecting JOG mode by closing the Jog mode input switch. The letters JOG should appear
in the lower left corner of the CRT/MDI screen.
• Pressing your jog pushbuttons which activate the standard ladder (PMC) interface bits for +J1
or -J1. You only have the ability to jog the first four axes with the standard, built-in interface.
If you are not able to jog, refer to the troubleshooting information later in this chapter.
Commanding Motion
Another way to generate motion is to enter a command through either the DPL/MDI or the
CRT/MDI. Registering commands by this method is called Manual Data Input (MDI). For
example, to position Axis X 600 USER units (millimeters, inches, degrees) from its current
position at the velocity of 500 USER units per minute, enter the command:
G91 G94 G00 X600.0 F500
Where: G91 indicates incremental movement.
G94 indicates feed per minute.
G00 specifies positioning movement.
X600.0 is the distance the X axis will move (in current USER units).
F500.0 is the rate of axis movement(in USER units per minute).
