18.4 C Executor
The C executor is a function that allows screens specific to a machine
tool builder to be incorporated into the CNC so that CNC displays and
operations can be customized. Any screen on the CNC can be replaced
with a screen created on a user application. Applications can be
created in general-purpose C in the same way as programs for use on
personal computers and their executable files can be incorporated into
the CNC. The execution files created on a personal computer can be
stored in the flash ROM of the CNC via a memory card so that they are
loaded into memory when the CNC starts and are executed on the C
executor.
Features
- Low-cost customization
No special hardware need be added to execute the C executor and
application programs. User applications can be incorporated into
the CNC with no modifications to the CNC.
(The size of the flash ROM/DRAM may have to be increased.)
- Development of applications on personal computers
Application programs can be developed using general personal
computers. All tasks ranging from the creation/editing of
programs to compilation/linkage to a certain level of debugging
can be performed on personal computers.
- High compatibility with C applications for use on personal
computers
The function library provided by the C executor has affinity with
ANSI and MS-C. For this reason, application programs for use on
general personal computers can be transplanted into the CNC
unless the application programs do not depend on any specific
hardware or OS.
- Unification of applications with CNC software
An application program created by a machine tool builder is
executed as one task in CNC software. Any of the existing CNC
screens can be replaced by a screen to be displayed by the
application program. The application program can read and write
various CNC system data via the library provided by the C
executor. This ensures that the application can be integrated into
CNC software. In addition to replacing CNC screens, new user
screens can be added.
- Graphic display and communication functions are usable.
An application program can perform graphic display of up to
640x480/256 colors. Such graphic display can overlap character
display. To perform graphic display, MS-C-compatible graphic
functions are provided. By using the reader/punch interface on
the CNC, the application program can perform (RS-232C)
