4.4.2 Outer and Inner Thread Repair
This cycle is a complete automatic cycle to repair
a thread that has been damaged. Basically this
cycle works like the normal threading cycle with a
shifted cutting start point.
By ”teaching in” location of thread, the start point
shift is calculated by the cycle, taking into account
of teach in position and current spindle speed.
Proceed as described below to repair a thread:
Step 1:
Input thread data
- Xs: Outer Thread Diameter X in Start Point
- Zs: Cutting Start Point Z
- Xe: Outer Thread Diameter X in End Point
- Ze: Cutting End Point Z
- P: Pitch of Thread (Radius Value)
- H: Height of Thread (Radius Value)
- D-Cut: Cutting Depth, Must be Set (Radius
Value)
- C: Chamfer Amount (Radius Value)
- Finish: Finish Amount (Radius Value)
Step 2:
Orient spindle to zero position (manually)
Step 3:
Move threading tool into thread
Step 4:
Press SET icon and save cycle data.
+
Step 5:
Start spindle in CW or CCW direction
After starting spindle it is very important to wait
until spindle reached maximum speed
(acceleration is completed) before proceeding to
next step.
Step 6:
Press START button on machine to
execute cycle. In the moment when start is
pressed current spindle speed is read.
Input mask of outer thread repair cycle.
Press to save data, press to return to
main screen without saving data. Press to
add spindle speed, feedrate.and tool data to
cycle.
For orienting spindle to zero position in step 2
refer to instructions of machine tool builder.
Normally a label on spindle chuck and machine is
provided. In some cases a lamp is turned on if
spindle is positioned to zero point.
Thread repair cutting can be performed up to
approximately 500 rpm. However there might be
some difference depending on the machine. In
case accuracy is not enough axis acceleration
coefficients can be tuned on thread repair
configuration screen.

The CNC and the machine tool must be prepared by
the machine tool builder for this function
