7.2.2 Thread Repair Configuration

By pressing “Thread Repair” button on
configuration screen, thread repair configuration
screen opens. The machine tool builder sets
thread repair parameters before delivering
machine. Normally it is not necessary and not
recommended to configure thread repair
parameter settings by machine operator.
Only in particular cases, when machine was
subject of mechanical modifications or when
spindle position sensor (Encoder) has been
replaced and thread repair results become
unsatisfactory a re-calibration might be necessary.
Following parameters can be set
- Angle: Angle between zero mark of spindle
position sensor (Encoder) and zero mark on
machine (Spindle chuck) used to orient
manually spindle in thread repair cycle
[degrees]. Refer to instructions of machine
tool builder how to set this parameter.
Standard setting is 0.
- Override: This parameter is used to tune
thread repair cycles for high spindle speeds.
As faster as the spindle is running as higher is
the influence of this parameter. Standard
setting is 170%. If 0 % is set CNC internally
uses default value of 170%.
Procedure for manual calibration of override and
angle parameter
Step1
Use normal thread cutting cycle to cut a thread in
a workpiece used for calibration.
Step2
Take out workpiece of chuck, rotate spindle
manually about 120 degrees and mount
workpiece again.
Step3, checking correct setting of angle param.
Use thread repair cycle and re-cut thread at very
low spindle speed (around 30 rpm). At this spindle
speed override parameter has practically no
influence.
If at such a low spindle speed thread repair cycle
is not working satisfactory (over cutting occurs)
setting of angle parameter is incorrect. In this
case set angle parameter in small steps and
repeat operation until cycle works correctly for low
spindle speeds.

Some machines are equipped with a special
encoder zero detection device, in such case angle
parameter should be always set to 0.
Working of override parameter
If angle and override parameter is modified it is
necessary to open by pressing “edit” touch area,
and save again thread repair cycle data in order to
make modification effective.
