The X– and Y–axis workpiece origin offsets can be measured regardless
of whether the workpiece origin is located on a surface of the workpiece
or at the center of a hole to be machined.

In the above case, the workpiece origin is located on a side surface of
the workpiece. The measurement of the X–/Y–axis workpiece origin
offset when the origin is located on a surface of the workpiece is the
same as that for the Z–axis workpiece origin offset, but with the
following exception: The tool length offset for the tool used to
measure the offset is used to calculate the Z–axis workpiece origin
offset, while the cutter compensation value for the tool is used to
calculate the X–/Y–axis workpiece origin offset.
